It’s time for us here at onlinecasino.ie to take a look at any new Irish casino news which may be of interest to our readers, but once again most of the recent headlines are not related to any of our Irish online casino operators. The Paddy Power Betfair merger appears to be progressing without any major glitches, and our smaller online casinos such as the All Irish casino just quietly continue to introduce new casino games and gain new customers. Clearly Irish casino games players are not restricted to online casinos based in Ireland, and many people also play at the Ladbrokes and William Hill online casinos. Talking of Ladbrokes, their proposed merger with Coral is still a major talking point for analysts of the gambling sector, with some beginning to doubt whether it will actually be waved through by the competition regulator even after the sale of a substantial number of betting shops. Although most recent reports have suggested that online gambling is seriously affecting the footfall in betting shops it appears that almost 75% of the gambling population still only use betting shops, potentially making the high street competition issue more important than was first thought. Ladbrokes and Coral own approximately 4,000 betting shops between them and are expected to be ordered to close or sell as many as 10% of those for the merger to be approved. At present of course William Hill own the biggest chain of betting shops, but that will change if the merger goes through. The most recent online casino news regarding William Hill concerns their disappointing 1st quarter trading update which detailed a 3% fall in net revenues over the period. Most of this was put down to an £8 million loss at the Cheltenham Festival, but they also had to pay out £3 million as a result of Leicester’s Premier League success. Shares fell by almost 6% as a result.
