Dragonfish and Harrah’s sign a deal

Dragonfish which is the business to business arm of online casino operator 888.com has signed an agreement with Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment which itself is the online arm of the well known Harrah’s casino of Las Vegas. The deal will see 888 supply games software and payment services to Harrah’s as well as customer support but the deal could have much deeper consequences. As we all know, at the moment US players are not allowed to use online gaming sites by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act but also as has been widely reported there are moves afoot to repeal the Act. If it is repealed it may also be that only companies that pay taxes may be allowed to participate which would automatically exclude overseas operators such as 888.com. With a deal with Harrah’s however 888.com stands a much better chance of gaining a license. Not surprising then that Gigi Levy, the CEO of 888.com said” It’s an amazing deal if the US market opens up to online gaming one day and it’s a good deal even it’s Europe only.” He went on to forecast that the deal would start to be seen in earnings as soon as next year and could be worth millions of dollars in the long term. We suspect that more European companies will be following in the near term.
