Bill Cullen’s new assistant is an ex gambler and ex alcoholic who mended his ways at the age of 27 and is now looking forward to a job with a €100,000 per year salary. Steve Rayner who is now 30 and currently works for telecoms company Imagine has been participating in the TV3 programme “The Apprentice” for the past 13 weeks is originally from Middlesborough in the North East of England but now lives in Co. Cork. Last week he heard the words that might change his life “You’re hired” as he was declared the winner. Steve said “”When Bill pointed the finger at me I was ecstatic. I still can’t believe it.” “If there is one reason why I won, perhaps it’s because there’s more to the Apprentice than the tasks. It’s how you get on with people. I think I was able to be myself throughout everything that happened and that really helped me”.

In gracious defeat Stephen Higgins who was runner up said “ He has been through a lot more in the last few years. I am only 25 and at the moment I don’t think I’m ready for a hundred grand salary”

Bill Cullen agreed with Steve in his summing up telling him that what impressed him most was Steve’s integrity and the way he was able to get on with people. “It’s a unique talent and you have it naturally” he said “ I look forward to welcoming you on board”

It is believed that Steve will start work in Mr Cullens motor business very soon after Christmas.

Congratulations Steve.
