Did you know that October 19th was designated as Responsible Gaming Awareness Day in the UK by the Remote Gambling Association (RGA). RGA represents the world’s largest licensed remote gambling companies and provides the industry with a single voice towards legislators, regulators and other decision makers. The idea of a Responsible Gambling Awareness Day is to:-
- Raise awareness of the need to gamble responsibly
- Make current and potential gamblers aware of Responsible Gambling measures and the support and advice available, through service suppliers such as Gamcare.
- Educate opinion formers about Responsible Gambling and the socially responsible activities and measures undertaken by those within the industry
- Support operators in and encourage them to ‘go the extra mile’ in raising awareness of responsible gambling
- Counter misconceptions that ‘problem gambling’ has reached endemic proportions and is ‘out of control’
- Educate regarding the level of risk when gambling and what is being done to address it
To mark the occasion the RGA issued a video to demonstrate how online casinos (the good ones anyway) go to great lengths to protect the consumer information by using technology which also helps identify problem gambling and blocks underage visitors. Clive Hawkswood, CEO of the RGA said “we hope our five minute tutorial will provide (lawmakers) with a quick insight into how operators ensure that for the vast majority, gambling remains a safe and harmless leisure activity”
