It is not April 1st but that doesn’t stop some people publishing what can only be called mischievous gossip on Facebook. This one concerns the sale of the Limerick’s Treaty Stone to an unnamed casino in Atlantic City. The Treaty Stone gets its name from the fact that it was supposedly used for the signing of the Treaty of Limerick on October 3rd 1691 which ended the war between supporters of William of Orange and the Jacobites. The stone which is limestone stands on a plinth in Limerick City which is sometimes known as the Treaty City. [click to continue…]
