Grandmother steals £140,000 for online casino gambling

It is an unfortunate side effect of gambling that some people cannot control the activity and that remains true whether the problem is casino games at online casinos or sports betting at the local bookmaker but the latest bit of online casino news to come out of the UK is rather disturbing. The casino news concerns a 61 year old Grandmother who was jailed for the offences last year but is back in the courts because the prosecution claims there is  money unaccounted for. The lady in question is from a small town in Devon, England who was put in charge of the accounts of a small family owned building firm while the owners moved to Canada; she then virtually emptied the account of around £140,000 over a 10 month period using the money for gambling at online casinos. It is reported that she could have spent as much as £2 million at just one online casino which as anyone who plays at an online casino will know means she must have had some pretty sizeable wins along the way. The lady also apparently gave some £20,000 of the money to her son and daughter as so called debt repayment. The owners of the building firm are needless to say totally devastated as not only have they lost their cash but they are being chased by debt collectors. Police are still trying to chase down any assets that remain which will go to the victims but they claim there is still some £20,000 plus missing, a figure which is disputed by the defence. We do read in online casino news that some folk have a problem and our own online casino news feature has reported that some steal from employers but to have wagered £2 million with a single online casino is a lot of money and we suspect that the online casino in question was maybe not one of the larger ones such as those we recommend who we suspect would have picked up on such large amounts and checked it out.
