Although Chile enjoys a thriving Casino industry online casinos are banned,  leaving only state owned lotteries as the only option for online gambling but that might be about to change with the recent announcement of a tie up between Loteria de Concepcion and gaming provider Intralot.

Loteria de Concepcion was founded in 1921 and is one of the two main gaming companies in the country, the other being Polla Chilena de Beneficencia, and they operate under a license issued by the Ministry of Finance with a good proportion of the income generated by the lotteries going to good causes including the Red Cross. Intralot is a Greek company that provides gaming and sports betting technology to more than 50 countries; the initial contract runs for a period of 7 years with renewals possible after that.

Intralot CEO, Mr. Constantinos Antonopoulos said “INTRALOT considers Chile as an important and very challenging country to pursue business opportunities in. This country became one of our first international milestones, as we have strongly believed in the dynamic of the local gaming market. We are confident that through our partnership with the Loteria de Concepcion we will manage to boost the Lottery΄s performance and thus increase its contribution to good causes in the country, and look into opportunities in the wider region of Latin America.”

Mariano Campos the CEO of the Loteria de Concepcion said “We are very pleased to enter in this strategic cooperation with INTRALOT and explore jointly business opportunities in Chile and Latin America. We are confident that based on INTRALOT΄s experience and technological know-how we will manage to get the Loteria de Conception into a new era, serving our purpose which is the support and the development of the local community.”

It is hoped that this will be good news for Chilean online gamblers but in the meantime they will probably continue to visit overseas sites.
