Casino wins Eco award

It is not often that we associate green credentials with casinos that use massive amounts of electricity in flashing lights and air conditioning but the owners of Las Vegas Sands casino and the Venetian have been awarded the American LEED-EB Gold certification for the work done so far. The company claims to have saved 100 million gallons of water per year and enough electricity to power 6500 domestic homes; it also claims to recycle 75% of its food waste and 55% of general waste. The company has launched the Sands Eco 360 degrees Global Sustainable Development program after winning the award and according to Michael Leven, the President and Chief Operating Officer the launch “demonstrates our commitment to sustainable development and operations”. He went on to say “ Clearly, there are important business advantages to operating in a sustainable manner, but when sound business practices are married with sustainable efforts that benefit the environment and our communities, the impact is immeasurable.”  They also utilise the largest solar-thermal system in the United States to provide hot water for spas and pools. We commend them on their activity but of course online casinos are much more eco friendly without even trying.
