It would appear that robbing a casino is the crime of the moment as it was only a couple of weeks ago that we reported on armed robberies in France and Switzerland and only a few days ago that we reported on one in South Africa and now we have one in Almere in the Netherlands. This one was slightly different as it took place at approximately 05:30 in the morning when the casino was closed and instead of walking in with guns and knives the robbers smashed their way in using a carĀ causing substantial damage to the casino located on the Sluiskade. The criminals were obviously not there to play roulette or blackjack but they did manage to cause substantial damage inside the casino by smashing open a number of slot machines. The police were alerted by a witness but despite being at the premises quite quickly and with numerous response units the perpetrators were nowhere to be found. It is not yet known how much was taken but possibly due to the swift response of the police no effort was made to tackle the safe. In the recent cases the robbers have not been found but this is not always the case as six people have been arrested for the smash and grab at the Berlin poker tournament but then that was being filmed by television crews at the time. In this instance the car used as a battering ram was left behind and is now being studied by forensic teams. If this sort of crime continues it will only encourage more people to stick with an online casino which is not only more convenient but apparently safer as well.
