The introduction of online casinos has brought with it a vastly increased number of casino games which were not available in most land based casinos. One of these new casino games is Caribbean Stud, which many describe as a cross between poker and blackjack. Caribbean Stud is also probably the most recent variation of poker to be introduced, reportedly dating from as late as the 1980’s. The link with blackjack comes from the fact that Caribbean Stud is an online casino card game played against the dealer, in which 5 cards are dealt to the player face up on the table, with the dealer also dealt 5 cards with just one card face up. At the beginning of each game the player places an ante bet before the cards are dealt, which must be at least equal to the minimum table stake, and when all the cards have been dealt, the player can raise the bet by at least the ante, if they think they have the winning hand or ‘surrender’ if not. The hands are ranked as in standard poker, but for the dealer to win he must have what is called a qualifying hand, which at most online casinos is defined as Ace,King high. If the dealer does not have a qualifying hand, the raised stake is returned to the player and the ante bet is paid out at even money. Caribbean Stud is one of those online casino games which is very easy to learn, requiring little skill, and with a reasonable chance of winning. Of all the new card games made available by online casinos, Caribbean Stud appeals to both the poker player looking for a faster game by way of a change, or to the blackjack gambler wanting to familiarise themselves with the basics of poker. For those online casino gamblers with no experience of either poker or blackjack, Caribbean Stud is a good way to learn elements of both games without risking large pots.
